Highlights in NSW over the last couple of weeks, as reported to Birdline NSW, 
are as follows:

FAIRY PENQUIN   5 Berry Bay (the site of the recent oil spill), Sydney Harbour  
26/8 - great to hear they survived
CAPE PETREL             1 Norah Head, Newcastle 28/8 - first central coast 
record
ANTARCTIC PETREL        1 off Maroubra, Sydney 27/8 - a well deserved reward 
for the hours of diligent watching by one observer
WHITE-HEADED PETREL     1 Long Reef, Sydney 3/9
SOUTHERN FULMAR 1 Long Reef, Sydney 31/8 - perhaps the last until the next 
"wreck" year
COMMON DIVING PETREL    1 found ashore Cronulla, Sydney 28/8 - the bird from 
Long Reef the week before?
BLACK-NECKED STORK      1 Harrington, Newcastle 30/8
FRECKLED DUCK   1 Lake Cowal, West Wyalong 7/8
SQUARE-TAILED KITE      1 McGrath's Hill STW, Windsor  22/8
PAINTED BUTTON QUAIL    2 Mitchell Park, Cattai 22/8 and again 5/9
POWERFUL OWL    1 Ku-ring Gai Wildflower Garden visitor centre, Sydney 27/8 - 
apparently snacking on possums released there by WIRES!  2 Mitchell Park, 
Cattai 22/8
JAPANESE SNIPE  7 Pitt Town Lagoon, Windsor 31/8, 2 Mason Park, Strathfield 
3/9, 2 Deepwater Park, Milperra, Sydney 6/9 - first returns for spring
SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPER  2 Mason Park, Strathfield, Sydney 3/9 - first return 
for spring
CURLEW SANDPIPER        10 Penrhyn Road, Botany  3/9, 2 Mason Park, Strathfield 
3/9, 4 Picnic Point, The Entrance 2/9 - first returns for spring
RED KNOT        2 Picnic Point, The Entrance, Central Coast 2/9 - first return 
for spring
ARCTIC TERN             1 off Wollongong 29/8
SUPERB PARROT   12 Burcher, mid west 7/8
TAWNEY-CROWNED HONEYEATER       6 Norah Head, Newcastle 28/8
SINGING BUSHLARK        1 Richmond Turf Farms 5/9
MANGROVE GERYGONE       2 singing at Careel Bay, Pittwater 3/9 - the regular 
southern limit of this species
WHITE-THROATED GERYGONE 1 Mitchell Park, Cattai 5/9 - first return for spring
CHESTNUT-RUMPED HEATHWREN       4 Mitchell Park, Cattai 5/9
