Hi Jon,
your story reminds me a bit of a dump on a holiday island, where I worked.
My birdwatching walks with guests went always passed the open dump (all
kinds of waste), and it was a great spot for Bee-eaters, White-breasted
Woodswallows, Flycatchers, Drongos, etc.
One morning we arrived to find about 30 birds dead on the ground, mainly
insect-eating birds, but also some Peaceful + Bar-shouldered Doves.
The person in charge of the dump used fly-poison in the morning, and that
was the cause. He usually did that at night, but that day he changed the
routine.
I made a big fuss, complained to management, and he promised not to do it
again.
It happened only once.
I thought I let you know this story.
