I have heard nothing in recent days about the outbreak of
Newcastles Disease in Central NSW. Does anyone have recent
information if the outbreak has been restricted to the quarantine
area set up and how the culling of birds in the area has
progressed? Are only poultry being culled or are pet and aviary
birds in the area also being euthanased?

Perhaps one of the vets on the list might like to comment on
symptoms that might be seen in wild birds if anyone in the area
finds a sick wild bird, which wild birds might be most at risk of
catching it, how it is spread between birds, and maybe speculate
how poultry in Australia became infected with it in the first
place.

cheers,

Mike Owen
