Given the degree of discussion during the last few months about swifts, or their absence, this past summer I thought this might be of interest to someone. While atassing at one of my regular sites just south of Diamond Creek (outer north-east suburb of Melbourne) on 3 April I saw a scattered flock of about 20 White-throated Needletail. The birds were headed in a general southerly direction, obviously taking the leisurely route back to the breeding grounds.
