Subject: RFI: Auckland and Tiri Tiri Matangi
My family and I will shortly be heading back to the UK and hope to break our
journey in New Zealand. Last time we were there (in 1988) we visited the
island of Tiri Tiri Matangi (hope I have spelt it correctly) just north of
Auckland. At the time it was being proposed as an open reserve where some of
the rare New Zealand endemic birds could be seen. When we visited
Saddlebacks and Brown Teal had already been (re?)introduced and seemed to be
doing well. As part of being allowed onto the island we spent the morning
planting trees including a special one for our eldest son, Andrew.
Is it possible to visit Tiri Tiri Matangi and how can a visit be organised?
Also is it possible to see Kiwi near Auckland as we missed this last time.
Thanks in advance
Roger
