birding-aus
Dion Hobcroft saw Sooty Owls at Broken River, Eungella Ra. in Nov. 1993.
The details are published in aust. bird watcher 17 (2): 103-4. There is an
earlier record of unidentified sooties from 1986. they seem to be pretty
scarce there.
The calls are slightly higher in lesser, which I think relates to body
size. distance and vegetation thickness impair the ability to detect subtle
differences. I would not trust my ears to separate the two species reliably.
