following common dangers too;
Plastic bags... especially fishing type bait bags. In the water they are
able to look jelly fish like. Hellium balloons (especially the ones
released by the hundreds at public events - they eventually have to come
down somewhere and it tends to be the ocean). My last trip to Taronga Zoo
they point blank refused a small child to take a balloon in with her because
of the danger involved for the animals. We had a graphic slide used in
training courses showing a Fairy Penguin with a plastic six pack beer holder
and its neck firmly entrapped in one of the beer holder holes. Together
with slides of stomach contents of autopsied marine mammals, it really made
you think whenever you came across things floating around the water. I can
certainly vouch for the fishing line danger. As a scuba diver, it was the
only reason I carried a sharp knife with me whilst diving.
