Further to Lawrie's and others observations of Caper White Butterflies.... At home at Whittlesea (37 29 S 145 05 E) they have been about in small numbers for some weeks; however on Sunday 25/10 there where large numbers moving NE to SW across a strong warm N to NW wind. At various times on Sunday we counted between 30 and 150 passing per minute across the 50 metres of our front lawn. Some paused to feed on a variety of flowers ( grevillea, daisies, westringia , thyme and other herbs in the herb garden ). The movement became less after a cooller light S breeze arrived about 6pm. And yes we did check to see that they were going the same direction on the other side of the house. Andrew Corrick |
