Tom Tarrant mentioned Collared Doves at Redcliffe, north of Brisbane. Are these pests still around Redcliffe? Julian Bielewicz & I saw them near a cafe a couple of years ago and thought they were probably cage birds 'let out' by the cafe owner - but apparently there is or was an established population. If so, why doesn't someone organise for them to be culled - or has the population risen beyond an easy cull? I'm sure some of our expat Brits would recall how this species used to be a rarity in Britain a few decades ago, and is now very common there. Can the same expansion happen here? Russell Woodford |
