Can anyone >offer the REN for the following (locally) common names? > buln buln > white headed water hen I belive the buln buln is the Ringneck Parrot (not sure if this is the official name) - certainly this name is used for the Mallee Ringneck in Eastman's "The Parrots of Australia". I would bet that the second is the coot, though that is a guess - in other pats of the world the white bill shield has led to analogous names (eg bald pate, used over here for a duck, the American Widgeon). -- Ronald I.
