A late follow up to your enquiry about Long-billed Corellas around
Melbourne.
There is a flock of 100+ that has foraged around the Dandenong area [40
kms east of Melbourne, Princess Hwy] for some 15 years or more now.
They are usually seen feeding in parks along the Dandenong creek, and
roosting in trees in Dandenong Park along the Princess Hwy going south.
There was a suggestion at some stage that these birds were 'escapers'
but the flock is now quite large and the pedigree must be difficult to
ascertain.
I have photos of part of this flock visiting my sister's garden feeder
in Dandenong east[near the creek] and a 'strange' pair-a long-billed and
a little. I have also seen a long-billed and a galah moving around
together, and of course long-billed and SC Cockatoos can be seen feeding
together in paddocks.
Earlier this month I saw a large flock of long-billed corellas
defending the high water tower in Cohuna near Kerang, N-W Victoria.
