Dear Birding Aus, Many thanks to all those who replied to my request for the common names on my bird clock. When it was pointed out that they were indeed Japanese or Asian species, I managed to find all but two in a reference titled "Birds of Hong Kong" by Viney and Phillips. The question was raised as to how I could get 15 different calls from a 12 hour clock. This is because the calls start at 0600hrs and finish at 2100hrs. The last three are not illustrated on the clock face. The Cuckoo is at 1200hrs and the White-eye is at 1600hrs. The calls are a bit scratchy but still pleasant to listen to. I can only hope they are in the right sequence and one clue that has helped is the Cuckoo call which sounds like a Cuckoo! Regards, Jim Reside |
