Fay and I have just returned from a week's birding in the Mount Isa region
where we were befriend by local birder Bob Forsyth (not yet online). Bob is
doing some sterling work in the area, following in the footsteps of Horton,
et al. He is beginning to collect and collate valuable information on the
birds of the region, especially some of the rarer species (eg Carpentarian
and Dusky Grasswren and even some work on Night Parrot).
Bob would appreicate hearing from anyone who has birded the area in the past
and has lists of sightings (particularly of the rarer species). Bob can be
found at:
PO Box 933
Mount Isa
Q. 4825
or email me and I will pass on all information to Bob.
I repeat, Fay and I remain impressed with the good work Bob is putting in
and feel that he deserves all the help we can profer.
Incidently, he is of course a top local guide having spent the last 25 years
(not all birding) in the Isa. His knowledge of half hidden old mining
tracks and waterholes has to be experienced to be believed.
Thanks in advance
Julian
