Hi all, On Tuesday, at the height of a storm in Sydney with waves up at 3 metres, on a seawatch off Maroubra I logged up a meagre 11 birds in half an hour (there was, though, a latish Short-tailed Shearwater amongst them). On Thursday, after the storm had subsided, bird numbers were up in the hundreds again, and amongst them were a few Yellow-nosed Albatrosses, a White-fronted Tern, good numbers of Australasian Gannets, and a BROWN BOOBY, a rarity this far south, flying south a couple of hundred metres offshore. Had some great comparative 'scope views of it with an immature gannet. Goes to show once again that the best seawatching tends to be the day _after_ a storm has passed through. Rod Gardner |
