Hi all
I was out last weekend at Stockyard Plain - just east of Waikerie in the
Mallee and saw numerous grey fronted honeyeaters.
Others bids which I think are worth mentioning were:
a pair of tawny frogmouths trying to look very inconspicuous in a small
black oak tree. Also marsh sandpipers, a wood sandpiper and numerous
red-kneed dotterel, brown falcon and brown goshawk.
The area north and north east of Murrayville is a great place to visit
especially on the tracks around the Pink Lakes and the border with SA where
you can also look forward to crested bellbird, white whinged fairy wren,
chestnut quailthrush and pink cockatoo which I have seen on every visit
there over the October long weekends that I have had - and striated grass
wren (which I haven't seen yet!),
For easter, I will be visiting Calperum Station which is north of Waikerie
on the old Wentworth Road and south of Dangalli Conservation Park. I also
expect a trip into Gluepot station. The SA Ornithological Association are
having their campout at Calperum.
Happy easter and good birding.
cheers
Mauro
