Highlights from twice-weekly Canberra Ornithologists' Group (COG) hotline,
for fortnight ending 6 February (some reports are of earlier obs).
My apologies for the lack of report last week; quiet times, as the drought
continues, and a personally difficult time, with close family very severely
affected by the Kathering floods.
SUPERB PARROT 23/1 female, inner suburban Campbell
ARCTIC JAEGER 23/1 from beach, Tathra (strong onshore winds)
WEDGE-TAILED EAGLES several in suburbs, including one at car height
outside CSIRO Wildlife! (probably drought-related, as RCV has had little
apparent impact here yet)
SPINE-TAILED SWIFTS (NEEDLETAILS IF YOU MUST!) almost total lack around the
area; almost unheard of!
WHITE-BELLIED SEA-EAGLE 30/1 Lake Burley Griffin
LEADEN FLYCATCHER 26/1 female & attendant immature in very inner Turner
WHITE GALAH! Inner suburban Ainslie, with 'normal' flock. (White where
should be pink)
BRUSH CUCKOO 2/2 still calling in suburban Hackett
BOOBOOK reported feeding large young on Peewees!
