Highlights from twice-weekly Canberra Ornithologists' Group (COG) hotline,
for week ending 27 February (some reports are of earlier obs).
Definite signs of early migratory movement, doubtless drought-related.
PEREGRINE 20/2 Russell Defence Offices
BLACK FALCON still on Mt Majura adjacent to suburban Hackett
BLACK KITE 6/2 Molonglo Gorge (by Queanbeyan in neighbouring NSW)
RAINBOW BEE-EATERS several reports now of apparent movement; perhaps of
birds from further south, since we've had virtually none this year
LEADEN FLYCATCHERS likewise signs of general early movement out
LEWINS HONEYEATER 22/2 Tallaganda State Forest (in range immediately
east of Queanbeyan - uncommon this far from the coast)
DARTERS breeding in moderate numbers along the Molonglo, just before
it becomes Lake Burley Griffin; not so in recent years
and with wings, but not birds....
LITTLE RED FLYING FOXES many being recorded in and around Canberra this year
- not a common occurrence
