Highlights from twice-weekly Canberra Ornithologists' Group (COG) hotline, for week ending 22 January (some reports are of earlier obs). Another quiet week - but it included our hottest day for 25 years, and the severe drought continues. Kellys Swamp, the key Canberra wetland for birdos has been a cracking claypan since Christmas. BLACK KITE 16/1 Burrell Lake, near Ulladulla KOELS 19-21/1 Throughout northern Canberra [it's worth noting that until about 10 years ago there were only 2 records for Canberra] KOEL 14/1 Mt Clear, in snow gums at over 1300m asl; this would be the highest and most southern record for at least the ACT ...................................................................
