As anticipated/feared, the Red-capped Plover episode has not turned out well. Today (3/1/98) the parent bird was nowhere to be seen, leaving a single hatchling on the beach to fend for itself. This was last seen being carried off by some concerned UK visitors - hopefully to the care and attention of Christine Wilder (until recently of Emu Tours, now resident in Margaret River - and keen to meet local and visiting birders) - whose name and address I gave them when it became clear that they were not intending to leave the chick on the beach by itself. An interesting minor avian episode now more or less concluded. Richard Nowotny From: Dr Richard Nowotny Melbourne, Australia Tel. (w) 61-3-9214.1420 <> |
