Dear Lawrie, Dight's Falls (for overseas people, just a few Kms. from Melbourne G.P.O. & on the Yarra River) has always been an excellent area to see Darters. When I did a Birds of Yarra Bend/Studley Park Survey a few years ago, over a 3 year period, we frequently saw one or two there. Also, Willsmere Billabong, (in Kew, an eastern suburb of Melbourne) is another good spot. A month ago, I had a Darter & an Azure Kingfisher in the bins at the same time. Another good area for Darters is Banyule Flats Billabong (Heidelberg, Vic) on the Yarra. Celia M. Browne, North Balwyn, Vic. |
