A Royal Penguin was located at Pretty Beach, Batemans Bay, NSW yesterday (10th December 1997) The bird was taken into care this morning and will be passed on to Taronga Zoo. It is apparently sick and very light in weight. It being one of the Macquarie Island type white-faced forms in adult plumage. Larger Penguins anywhere in NSW are very rare and as far as I know this is the first occurrence of this species in NSW. Regards Tony Palliser |
