Hi Lorne
I have not heard of OBPs staying in Vic during the summer. It's breeding
time in Tassie at Melaleuca.
Rufous bristlebirds can be seen anywhere along the southern cost west of
Geelong to the Otways. I have seen them regularly at:
Point Addis carpark area including top part of walking track down to
beach. Not far out of Geelong.
There is a population at Airies Inlet Lighthouse but go there in the
quiet time of day.
Early in the morning at Loch Ard carpark near the Twelve Apostles is
nearly a 'cert' to see them. Can provide more info
You can find Pink Robins in the Dandenong Ranges NP [Fern Tree gully
part]; a good spot is in the area at the start of the 1000 steps walk.
Kinglake NP is also a good spot, and a definite for lyrebirds early in
the morning.
The moulting penguins of this year arrived after Christmas in
February/March. I know of no unusual penguins here at the moment though
some have been turning up in Tassie.
I am going to be in NSW at the time, going to Sydney then up to
Barrington Tops, Dorrigo area.
Can you help me with possible sights for scrub bird, crested hawk,
little and black bittern, and rainforest pigeons?
cheers Laurie Living
