Iain Campbell asks <Does anyone use any simple tape recorder with mic that will suffice.> I use a $39 GEC 3-5363 mini cassette recorder/player. Simple gear for simple people. A bit noisy but the birds don't care. Tapes calls from a surprising distance away. You could get even better with a detachable directional mike. Uses ordinary cassettes, and is tons of fun.
