David and any who may has info:

Noisy Miners form colonies and are known to chase other birds that
attempt to feed within their collective territory. I have become
interested in deteriming what triggers a NM to chase other birds and
what tiggers a NM to attack other birds sitting still on a branch of a
tree. These are my personal observvations and tentative conclusions:

1) NM will chase practically anything that flies within their territory
including other Noisy Miners.

2) NM will chase black-and-white birds (magpies and magpir larks) but when
the B&W bird lands on a perch the NM do not attack them (there are
exceptions).

3) NM will readily attack crows, currawongs and birds of prey sitting on a
perch and while in flight.

At this time the number of observations is low to make any firm
conclusions such as B&W birds are partially immune to attacj when
stationary on a perch. There are many other reasons that I can think of
why NM will attack some birds but not others, but currently, I am
interested if anyone else has notice this trend to ignore B&W birds on the
will perched.

TIA
 Cheers, Jim Davis
