You haven't apparently received too many replies to your query. The best
place for Black Bitterns that I know of is at Ourimbah Creek on the
central coast. They are only reliable if you paddle up the creek in a
canoe or small boat. They were seen three times out of three around April
last year. I saw two from a canoe with Rob Benson. His brother Allan has
also seen them there at about the same time.
Seeing them from the water is much easier as you see where they fly to
after being flushed, allowing you good views for extended times. From
land it is very hit and miss.
