Better to use a seperate host .

dd if=/dev/Xxx of=sdImage.dd

to make image, then insert new SD card and in same directory:

dd if=sdImage.dd of=/dev/Xxx bs=2048

The 'Xxx' needs to substituted with the correct three digit device code that you find in the 'df' program, eliminating the number at the end. NOTE: All Debian / Ubuntu I have seen will auto mount SD cards. You MUST unmount first for both the original and copy SD Cards before using dd. The umount command requires the partition code,(three letters plus 1-2 more letter/number) not the device code (the first three letters). Example:

1. Insert original SD card, use df to figure out how many partitions were mounted and the device code. In my case three partitions are mounted: /dev/sde3, /dev/sde5, and /dev/sde6.

2. Unmount original SDCard:

sudo umount /dev/sde3 /dev/sde5 /dev/sde6

3. Image original using device code:

dd if=/dev/sde of=sdImage.dd

When it finishes, remove original and insert new card.

4. Unmount new card. In most cases a new card will have one partition (verify w df). On my system it's:

sudo umount /dev/sde1

5. Write new card:

dd if=sdImage.dd of=/dev/sde bs=2048

That's it!
