First, verify that the serial port is correctly configured/enabled on
your virtual Linux. Run minicom, and connect pins 2 & 3 on the serial
port or serial cable. This will loop the transmit pin back into the
receiver pin. Doing so should cause any keystrokes that you type to be
echoed back to your minicom terminal. Until you get this far, you should
make no assumptions about the rest of the test. I'm always a bit uneasy
about virtualization when it comes to hardware access. It just seems
like another layer that I have to question when things don't work right
away.
The TS-9445 interface is the only possible way to see boot messages (and
I wish I could get a satisfactory explanation for that). If you bought
the development kit that includeds the TS-9445 board, then the cable
that comes with it should connect directly to a conventional PC serial
port, with no null-modem style pin-swapping required.
Once the board is booted, you should be able to connect via telnet, as
ramirosenbaum has already described.
