Martin, Thanks.. It is a good choice but after rebooting the system, the IP will be the configurated in /etc/networing/interfaces. I mean the changes by using $iconfig eth0 xxxxx just takes place while the system is on but is not after rebooting where the IP will be the default one.

Marcos

Hi - sorry to interrupt, but needing or expecting a reboot is old-style Windows thinking.

At the highest level, ifconfig will directly change the IP address of an interface dynamically:

$ ifconfig eth0 129.1.2.3

will directly change the IP address. Don't forget to change broadcast and netmask parameters if you are changing subnets. And you will need to change the routing entries.

But simple and effective is:

$ /etc/init.d/network stop; /etc/init.d/network start

once you have changed the sysconfig/ifcfg-eth0 and network_cfg files.

Martin
