Al,, you are right...I have a PC running windos XP... actually I have disabled the widows firewall before posting the comment, but anyway, did not work...

It looks like you have a Windows PC running the Cygwin environment.
If so, you will have to either disable the Windows firewall or modify it to allow FTP transactions. We could not get beyond the 'connected' point either until the firewall was disabled. (Don't forget to re-enable it when you are done.)
