Ok, never mind about the initrd problem - I was missing CONFIG_BLK_DEV_RAM. Now 
I get to the fasboot prompt but then I think the watchdog expires.

I'll try to get that rectified next. I thought I added the watchdog patch but 
maybe it didn't get built into the kernel right...
