I like your thinking. :)

To be honest, I copy/pasted the "check for root" if statement from somewhere 
online... I didn't take the time to understand it completely.

After reviewing the script again, I realized that it was flawed in a few other 
spots.  In fact, I don't recognize it being the one I had originally published 
at all!  It's as if it was replaced by accident with one that I was using for 
development.

I took some time today to make it a bit more robust (basing it off of Russ' 
recommendations).  I tested it with a 16GB SD card to make sure everything 
worked "out of the box".  I changed the structure around just a bit and made 
some minor corrections here and there.  The script that is published now should 
work better than the one I had posted before.  Sorry for any inconvenience it 
may have caused.  The md5sum for the new script is:
189c9683b732cda13d5a6ab58d01fd0d
