[ts-7000] TS-7553 -- External DB9 line leveled?

I am aware that /dev/ttyS0 is line leveled and needs the TS-9448 to bring up 
the lines to RS-232 levels, but I am not finding information regarding the 
external DB9 on the front of the enclosure. I was assuming that /dev/ttyS1 was 
piped out that DB9, although I am not able to validate that assumption....

I am not getting any data out to my standard PC serial port after enabling 
/dev/ttyS1 in my /etc/inittab for a vt100 shell ( echo "test" > /dev/ttyS1 
shows nothing either).

Anyone have any info I am overlooking?
