I've never tried to do what you're doing, but the fact that the error message indicates that it thinks it's trying to connect to a "local" MySQL server seems significant.  It could be that it's not getting your configuration parameters, so it's assuming it should connect to a local server or there could be some mis-configuration of the user on the MySQL server side that's causing it to fail.  One idea might be to try to get this working in a debian VM using x86 stuff before you try to tackle the cross compiled version.  HTH.

I have now have a successful compile, however, I now get the message "Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (2)". I'm now trying to figure out what this is telling me.
