I've been able to use WiFi dongles, base both on RT73 and Zydass 1211 chips, also a number of Flash drives and a Samsung HD. Tried a WD HD but it drawed too much current.

JP jumps the the 5V power lines to external power, but USB is powered through a chip that limits current to 500mA, so JP7 is not a solution. You can use a USB HUB that allows using external power but be careful that the USB 5V and the external power are not shortened (I've seen that).

Quick answer: not much, not enough to power a WiFi dongle, but enough for a USB audio adaptor. If you're powering the board off 5v with JP7 connected it might work, but I found the board would still brown out on occasion.

The power supply for the USB apparently powers the LCD port too, which the manual claims has a 750mA polyfuse on it. I think that is a bit misleading. :-)

Also I managed to blow up the SMPS that powers the USB port (I think) by feeding the board 12v with JP7 installed. Does anyone have any experience with that? I'm wondering if it is easy/cheap to repair, or if something else may have gone wrong.

cheers
