Hi Mike,

I was wondering if you could point out a few specifics for me with regards to Lenny on the 7800.  I've got the bulk of the install in place, and was able to create a new user on the Lenny distribution while still in busybox.  However, I can't do anything as root.  There's no sudo in the distribution and I can't do a console login either.  How did you figure out what the default root password was?

Thanks a bunch!

Now that some of the problems I had (detailed in my other thread) have been resolved, I am looking for help on my main issue: Getting Debian Lenny to run on my TS-7800.

Hardware: TS-7800, TS-ADC16, TS7KV video card, with USB keyboard and mouse. It boots up and runs OK, including a console on the video display, using the "Sarge" version of Debian that comes with the development kit.

What I want to do is bring up the latest "Lenny" version of Debian, and run X Windows on the video console. Here is how I made my bootable SD card:

1) I made a copy of the 2GB SD card that came with the development kit. Remember, this has Sarge on partition 4. I copied this onto an 8GB SD card.

2) I removed partition 4, then created a new partition that filled the rest of the card (about 7 GB).

3) I downloaded the file debian-lenny-eabi-armel-512MB-mar032009.tar.gz and un-gzipped it. Then I un-tarred the file and put all the resulting directories onto partition 4 of the SD card.

4) Then I put the card into the TS7800 and it booted fine. I was able to log into the serial console.

Question 1: Does all this sound correct? Or should I have also done something with either the kernel image or the initial ramdisk in the other partitions?
--------------------------------
At this point, the TS7KV was not doing anything. So...

1) I downloaded the load_ts7kv program and the ts7kv.bit bit stream. I had to use the source version of load_ts7kv, but that compiled and ran without error. Running it causes the green LED to come on, on the video board. So I know the FPGA on the video board is properly initialized.

2) I then tried loading the modules which the video card needs, using modprobe. I am able to load these modules: fb, cfbcopyarea, cfbfillrect, cfbimgblit, ts7kvfb, font, softcursor, and bitblit. But if I then try to load fbcon, which is the last module needed, that does not work. Instead, the system seems to crash. The modprobe program does not return, and I cannot interrupt it with ctrl-C or ctrl-Z. Also, if I am logged into the board with ssh, that session locks up too.

Grant Peacock from TS suggested I remove the TS-ADC16, but that did not help.

So...

Question #2: How can I find out what is going wrong with fbcon.ko, and how do I fix it?

Question #3: Has anyone else successfully run Lenny on a TS-7800 with a TS7KV? How did you do it? And can I have a copy of your image?

Note: Back in February, "Alberto" posted a Lenny image. I downloaded that and try it, but (#1) it seems to not be for the TS-7800 and (#2) it does not have the video drivers.

Any help would be appreciated.
