I found a pretty good articlew that explains the boot process here:

TS boards starts by running the TS-Bootrom code which then loads Redboot. Redboot then "initializes" for want of a better word the file system and launches vmlinux.

So, question: Which part of the system knows about how to deal with EXT2 or YAFFS or JFFS? What I'm getting at is I'd like to be able to set up an SD card with EXT3 on it. I know Linux has to be built with EXT3 support. What else needs to know that it's an EXT3 file system? Does the Redboot that comes with TS boards support it? Does the bootrom code need to know about it? Of course, it that's the case I'm hosed until I can convince TS to do this for me.
