Is it shifting two octets or three?
Sorry, I don't know much about the BT subsystem. It's such a clearly defined
problem, though, that someone on a BT mailing list could probably help you
track it down, or even point you to the change-set that fixed the problem.
For testing, you could try to run a later kernel and see if the problem goes
away. Alexander Clouter has worked hard to get the TS-7800 pretty well
supported in vanilla kernels. It sounds like you have a pretty good handle on
configuring & building kernels, so that shouldn't be too hard to try.
For that matter, maybe you userspace tools are broken?
