Kernel module required.  See adcxxx.xxx  in the files section of this group.  It is an excellent starting point. There are 2 versions 1 4 2.4 kernel, and 1 for 2.6 I believe (I used the 2.4)  also http://www.xml.com/ldd/chapter/book/   will help for 2.4 kernels.  There is a versionfor 2.6 kernels but it isn't avail for free online.

Interrupts in linux are handled in kernel space.
