I'm not literally building LFS by the book, but the embedded version of LFS is 
pretty close to what I'm doing so it's a great help with all the flag and 
makefile options issues. 

I have a bootable EABI 2.6 system running over nfs. I built the toolchain with 
crosstool-ng then refered to LFS when a package was difficult to configure.

Current problem is the original TSlinux on yaffs2 has just screwed the flash. 
So about all I can do is boot from nfs.
