The kernel selection for crunch only sets the CRUNCH_ENABLE bit in ep93xx
DEVICE_CONFIG, and turns on the code that does 'the right thing' wrt context
switches & crunch instructions in user apps.
If you try to run an app with crunch instructions on a kernel without crunch
enabled, you'll get an illegal instruction message. (Or something ...)
