Eddie,

I don't know where you read a "legal threat", I certainly did not
make one. I simply pointed out that it seems you are not fully
complying with GPL and pointed you to a good, clearly and positively
written guide to compliance. It's upto TS to judge whether they may
be exposing themselves by a possible non-compliance in some areas.
This is also something that your customers should be aware of (if
they are not already) so again the link should be helpful.

I also tried to be as positive as possible about the benefits to all
concerned so I find it odd that you find this negative.

This thread covered a number of issues not just the distro one. What
I refered to was an issue I had hit myself so I commented on it:
problems rebuilding the software that comes on the boards. You
supply busybox source but not the config (AFAIK). This means more
work for anyone wishing to rebuild TSlinux and would appear to be a
GPL violation.

The first step in modifing an existing system is to be able to
reproduce exactly the distribution binary. GPL clearly requires that
full information be provided in order to do just that.

Since 90% of TS linux is busybox it can hardly be seen as a detail
that you do not provide the config needed to build what you
distribute. This is a huge and complex config that would be virtually
impossible to back engineer to produce the same build result. As I
read it, GPL requires that to be provided. You should provide full
instructions to produce an identical binary.

Similarly for the kernel: source, compiler, CFLAGS , .config and
apparently in the case of cross-compiler specifying host is also
necesary.

I can understand that it may be annoying for someone to point this
out if it was something TS was hoping to ignore. However my aim was
not to annoy but to promote a positive change that would mean less
hassle for your customers and less time wasted supporting enquiries
that could otherwise be avoided by providing what you are required to
provide when you chose to benefit , F.O.C., from the work of others
in chosing to leverage open source software.

If I have missed something that is available on the server please
correct me.

Like you say, relax.

If full details were supplied you would probably have to waste less
time dealing with what you probably consider annoying , dumb support
requests and get on with the real work. ;)

sounds like win-win to me. Sorry if you found that negative.

best regards.

BTW, love the cartoons. A bit of light relief is always welcome.
