Hi Peter, Thanks very much for your advice, I will take it onboard once I get things finished in a few months time (hopefully!) Just comforting to know that further down the line I shoudn't have problems powering this up from the car as it would have being a disaster if I couldn't! Good thinking about the voltage spikes, never know what could go wrong in car electrics either that would cause a surge. I am kind of keeping a blog of the project on http://automon.killarneyonline.eu/ if anyone wants to track progress. (Some things might seem stupid and obvious on it but I'm new to this embedded environment! More than likely create a website for the project after and continue it after college. Cheers.
