Hi Donal,

Interesting project, keep us informed as to your progress.

With regard to powering the TS-TPC-7390, the input voltage is stated 
at 5VDC to 28VDC which allows the nominal 12V of the car battery to 
power the system. I would however place an inline fuse, reverse 
voltage diode and possibly some over voltage device inline with the 
power to ensure that no high voltage spikes make their way to the unit 
while the car is starting or at other times.

I would tend to be overcautious when connecting a $500 device to an 
automotive power source.
