Hi,
You will need to put the kernel on the flash via redboot or whatever, then
pass root=/dev/sda1 or similar instead of /dev/mtdblock1. Since redboot
doesn't support usb sticks, the kernel must be on the flash. The kernel
can read usb sticks though, so it should be able to use one as a root
filesystem once loaded.
