I have no experience with the ts7400, so cannot help.
On the ts7200, I configured redboot to load the kernel from that board's
CFDisk - that means I can revert to a known good kernel in the onboard
flash. I seem to remember that the ts7400 doesn't have redboot. I really
do not know what the boot arrangements. Can you configure the loader to
load the new kernel image via TFTP?

Maybe 7400 users can offer further assistance.
