I'm fairly certain that mine referenced 'sarge' out of the box.  I say that because the very first time I tried to use apt-get to install libncurses5-dev, I got a dependency error because apt wanted to install the dev 5.4-4 version, but libcurses5-5.5-5 was already installed.  The 5.5 series is in Etch and the 5.4 is in Sarge.  Since apt wanted to use the 5.4, it follows that it was looking at the Sarge repository.

But then again, the boards seem to be each individually hand installed and configured as none of the three I've seen were quite the same (for example, the latest had the permissions on / as 666 instead of 755, preventing all except root logins while the previous two weren't like that).  If not initially, then perhaps the boards are used a bit in-house before being sent out and are not always completely reset to the 'clean install' state.  Whatever it is, it keeps life a bit more interesting that I'd prefer.
