Delay? Oh, right of course. Now I remember something from almost exactly 3
years ago when I had a similar issue trying to boot a custom, Morphix-based
Linux distro off a USB memory stick.
After the kernel modules that allow use of a USB memory stick have been
loaded, you will need a delay of about 5 seconds before you can mount the
device. The issue with Morphix was they used a 4 second delay and which I had
to bump to 5 before mounting worked reliably.
Just add 'sleep 5' to your rc.local file before the mount command. Adjust the
number to suit your system. You might need a longer delay or a shorter delay
may still work. This gives the kernel modules time to recognize the existance
of the USB memory stick.
