You obviously never tried this. ARM9 processors run the ARMv4t
instruction set and will not run armv5 code.
ARM9 refers to the CPU core, a complex circuit design by ARM that can
be etched onto silicon.
ARMv[456]* refer to the different instruction sets that the cores can run.
Yes, it's a confusing numbering system.
