Thanks for your concern. A little while back I submitted a patch to allow 
the USB storage code to handle devices larger than 2TiB.

While I have absolutely no experience with FPGAs, there is enough stuff 
out there to build upon, and it looks straightforward :-)

The TS-7800 claims to be unbrickable, and from staring at the schematic 
and thinking about what they might have done, this claim looks reasonable.

Yes, but it is a start. Perhaps TS could be convinced to come out with a 
new device with a Virtex-5 on it :-)

Indeed, the resources on the 5182 are very interesting.
