It seems possible... but it seems like a lot of work.  How about finding a cheap
MP3 player, disecting it, and and replacing the user buttons with relays running
back to your primary controller.  Flip an output on you primary controller for 
1/4
second acts like pushing "next track" button on MP3 player.

Or even use little solenoids that act like "fingers" and push buttons on a stock
MP3 player... that involves a lot of careful fabrication of mounting brackets,
but to some people you have taught a "robot" to act more "human" by pushing
buttons.
